Shoppers have been making their lists and checking them twice since October, but did you know that over one-third of consumers plan to shop for last-minute gifts on Super Saturday (the Saturday before Christmas Day)? While online stores have the benefit of offering speedy, same-day delivery services, there are ways for brick and mortar retailers to cash in on this growing group of procrastinators as well.

1. Get Social

Customers rely heavily on social media for gift inspiration, so amping up your post during this time of year will encourage new customers discover and share your brand. A study by Ahalogy shows that of all social media channels, Pinterest is the network most likely to drive spontaneous purchasing.

2. Reward Loyalty

Provide special incentives for your customer network like an invitation to receive a free item with multiple purchases.

3. Sale Away

This season is about sales, sales, and more sales! In an October survey by the National Retail Federation, 73% of consumers listed sales or price discounts as the most important factor in deciding where to shop. (Side note: make sure to show customers how much they’re saving. Even if one spends more than intended, they will leave feeling good about their purchases.)

4. Put the Pressure On

A limited time promotion will encourage customers to take action. Stress words like “today only” or “offer expires tonight”.

5. Offer Gift Certificates

Convenience and practicality make gift cards a go-to gift. More than 70% of consumers surveyed by the NRF plan to purchase at least 1 gift card this season.
